We reflect on yesterday's Fireside Chat with Patrik Cannmo, Associate Dean of Education atJรถnkรถping University, on how collaborative education is boostingthe talents of tomorrow ๐ฅ Patrik discussed how their Product Development Project, a partnership with Husqvarna Group, is bridging the gap between theory and practice. Here are three insights about successful collaborative education projects such as this:โ Interdisciplinary learning: the course combines industrial design and engineering, equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of the product development process. This interdisciplinary approach prepares students to become employable engineers with a well-rounded skill set.โ Mutual benefits: according to Patrik, this course is a "win-win situation" for both students and the industry. The industry benefits from direct interaction with students from Jonkoping University, gaining access to their creativity and knowledge, whilst the students get a well-rounded, industry-ready learning experience. โ Real-world readiness: Students gain practical experience and industry insights, through continuous feedback from both their professors and Husqvarna engineers. This hands-on experience enhances their readiness for future employment. Missed this chat? Check out our upcoming Fireside Chats and register now. https://lnkd.in/edYhN7UN

Our Winchester, Virginia plant hosted professors and students from theUniversity of Notre Dame and Clemson University to set up and pour specimens for the Precast Buckling-Restrained Braced (BRB) Frame Research Project. These were some of the most complicated pieces that our drafters, engineers, and plant associates have seen to date. The level of care shown by all, including our two Winchester summer interns who were able to be involved in this unique work, was second to none. After months of meetings, analytical work, developing drawings, lots of work to refine the details, and securing the materials needed, we successfully produced these frame specimens that will be tested at the University of Notre Dame in the coming months. The Precast BRB Frames research is a major, multi-year research project funded by the National Science Foundation, PCI, and many precast producers in conjunction with University of Notre Dame, Clemson University, and University of California San Diego to develop and codify a new seismic force-resisting system. The research consists of analytical work at Clemson, laboratory testing at UND, and shake table testing at UCSD. This major research project was born out of three PCI Jenny Fellowships that were awarded by the PCI R&D Council to Notre Dame and Clemson. Through the collaboration of those teams and advisory groups, we are seeing code changing research which is exciting to all who are involved.#thankyou #leaders #precastconcrete #educators #metromont

I know that there are a few undergrads who follow on here and since I get a lot of asks about the pros and cons of taking 4+ years to complete an undergraduate degree I thought I would post this here: I still think that the talk by Shannon Hoekstra, PEng from 2013 (how is that possible?!?!?!?!) is one of the most eloquent and thoughtful descriptions of what an undergraduate engineering degree can (and should) be. Make it your own. https://lnkd.in/gztiVKXt
