Slay the Princess: Happily Ever After Route Guide (5)

Slay the Princess's Happily Ever After route was made available with the release of the Pristine Cut upgrade. To access this route, players must pursue the Damsel, a Princess that can appear in Chapter 2, and then select some specific dialogue options. This guide is here to elaborate upon that process, and it will help players reach the Happily Ever After route in Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut.

While the dialogue options detailed in this guide will lead players to the Happily Ever After route, they are certainly not the only avenues that fans of story-rich games can use to reach it.

Get the Damsel

The first step toward accessing the Happily Ever After route is getting the Damsel in Chapter 2. To reach the Damsel, players must rescue the Princess during Chapter 1, and here are the dialogue options that will lead visual novel fans to that outcome:

  • [Silently continue to the cabin.]
  • [Proceed into the cabin.]
  • [Enter the basement.]
  • Continue down the stairs.
  • "I'll see what I can do." [Examine the chains.]
  • "And if there isn't a key... do you have any other ideas?"
  • [Return to the bottom of the stairs.]
  • [Save the Princess.]
  • [Approach the locked door.]
  • [Warn her.]
  • [Resist.]

Players who have already reached the Damsel during their current playthrough may not be able to select some of the aforementioned dialogue options. Horror game fans who find themselves in that situation must start a new game if they hope to access the Happily Ever After route.

After reaching the Damsel in Chapter 2, Slay the Princess players should set their sights on freeing her. Here are the dialogue options that lead to the freeing of the Princess:

  • [Proceed to the cabin.]
  • [Proceed into the cabin.]

Fans of indie games must now convince the Princess to stay with them in the cabin, and there are two paths that lead to that outcome. While the path that the player uses to reach the Happily Ever After route does not have a significant impact on the events that occur during the route, it does determine which Voice is added to it. More specifically, one path adds the Voice of the Opportunist, while the other path adds the Voice of the Paranoid. Here are dialogue options for both of those paths:

  • "We leave. And then we have our whole lives to figure out what we want to do next."
  • (Explore) "Do you think you can open it?"
  • "Yeah. I think you've got this."
  • [You're not doing that.]
  • "All we need to be happy is each other, what if we just stayed here and built a life together?"
  • "Trust me. It'll be better for both of us if we stay. We can be happy here. We just have to want it."

Voice of the Paranoid

  • (Explore) "What do you want to do?"
  • (Explore) "I want you to tell me what you want."
  • (Explore) "There must be something you want!"
  • (Explore) "But what would make you happy?"
  • "Okay. Clearly something is happening here, and I'm very scared. What if we just... don't do anything? What if we just stay here? Nobody gets hurt, and we just figure out a way to be happy together."

Players have now reached the Happily Ever After route, and there are several ways in which it can come to a conclusion. While it is recommended that fans of games where choices matter make a save at the beginning of the chapter and explore the various dialogue options for themselves, here are some tips that should push them towards the route's different endings:

  • When there is only one torch remaining, select "We don't have to let it go out."
  • When there is only one torch remaining, select "Don't worry about what's going to happen. If you could do anything in the world, what would it be? What would you choose?"
  • When there is only one torch remaining, [Say nothing.] and then [Slay the Princess.].
